The Most Harmful and Costly Recent Natural Weather Events: A Coursera Project
This work explores the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Storm Data to identify the most harmful and costly natural weather events that occurred in the years 2000-2010. The analysis finds that in the first decade of the 21st century, tornadoes caused the most harm (injuries and fatalities), while hurricanes/typhoons causes the most economic damage (crop and property). Additionally, the report identified that these events do not occur regularly, but have significant repercussions when occurring.
