In this notebook, I use simple data from United States and European metropolitan areas to assess the validity of Zipf's law. Zipf's law predict a linear relationship between the log rank of city population and log city population, with a coefficient of 1. While we will see that the coefficient is in general not 1, the linearity of the relationship is striking.
