The mosaic plot looks at the relationship between improvement and therapy type in 84 female arthritis patients from the "vcd" package dataset. Treatment groups comprise Placebo and Treated, and improvement is classified as None, Some, or Marked. The area of each tile represents the percentage of observations, and shading shows Pearson residuals; blue cells show observed counts that are higher than predicted under independence, and red cells show counts that are lower than expected. The graphic shows that while treated patients were more likely to experience "Marked" improvement, placebo individuals were disproportionately represented in the "None" category. On the other hand, treatment patients showed fewer instances of no improvement while placebo patients showed less notable improvements. A statistically significant correlation between therapy and improvement is confirmed by the overall chi-square test, which produces a p-value of 0.016. These results imply that as compared to a placebo, active treatment is positively correlated with improved clinical outcomes.
