Final Conclusion Neither therapeutic alliance nor session attendance mediates EAET's treatment effects. This null finding is actually scientifically valuable—it tells us where NOT to look for mechanisms and strengthens the case that EAET works through its specific therapeutic content (emotional awareness and expression techniques) rather than through common therapy factors (alliance, dose). Future research should directly measure the hypothesized active ingredients: emotional awareness, emotional expression, alexithymia reduction, and emotional processing of pain-related experiences.
