There are 343 small and rural libraries in Wisconsin per the criteria used by Embedding Evaluation, based on data from the Institute for Museums and Libraries Services (IMLS). This data was cross-referenced with the 2024 Preliminary Statistics at the Public Library Level from the Wisconsin Department of Instruction’s Wisconsin Public Library Service Data. Based on a keyword search of the reported in-person activities at those libraries there were 43 libraries that listed stem or steam programming in 2024, 14 that listed science programming, and 3 libraries that listed astronomy-related programming (stargazing, astronomy, planetarium), for a total of 60 libraries.
