R for Geospatial: Mapping Small Areas
Presentation for Dublin R on 24th August, 2017 in AIB Grafton Street. Presenters: Naoimi Gillis and Billy Archibold Abstract: Background - Analysis was carried out on the Small Area Population Statistics (SAPS) for Census 2016 to classify each Small Area in Ireland into one of 17 typologies based on underlying social and economic characteristics. This is a reproduction of a geo-demographic classification created by the National Centre for Geocomputation (NCG) in Maynooth University using data from Census 2011. During the meet-up - Billy will explore the leaflet package and demonstrate how it can be used to create an interactive map to visualise the analysis described above. Billy will overlay some of the different typologies on an interactive map of Ireland and explore their spatial distribution. Naoimi will also use the dplyr package to aggregate SAPS data to County-level. This data will also be added to the map.
