Many around baseball believe that the declining trend in offensive production is in direct relation to the increase in the implementation of extreme defensive shifts. Using data from Major League Baseball, we explore why this is not the case, and offer alternate solutions to explain the decline, and subsequent rebound, of offense in baseball.
