Electricity Payments in Oregon: Comparing Detached and Multi-Unit Housing
This analysis explores how structural housing type—specifically detached single-unit versus attached or multi-unit housing—is associated with monthly electricity costs in Oregon. Using 2015 ACS Public Use Microdata, the report develops a log-linear regression model with interaction terms to estimate cost differences while adjusting for household size and number of bedrooms. Results indicate that attached or multi-unit housing is associated with significantly lower reported electricity payments, with an average difference of 18.4%. The analysis includes model diagnostics, sensitivity checks, and policy-relevant implications.
