This reports investigate the exponential distribution and compare it with the Central Limit Theorem (CLT). As a reminder, the CLT states that the distribution of averages of iid variables (properly normalized) becomes that of a standard normal as the sample size n increases. The present report provides an analysis of storm events in the United States since from 1950 to 2011. Data were collected from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) storm database. The analysis focuses on the impact of storm events on population health and economy.
