In an effort to reduce transmission of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-2019) experts in the United States advised residents to shelter-in-place and practice social-distancing. Many did not follow those recommendations. The current research examines what population characteristics predict this lack of compliance so that policymakers can more effectively plan to halt the spread of infectious disease like COVID-19.
