Data 624 Project 1
Crime Statistics Agency
This dataset includes crime statistics from Victoria, Australia, covering criminal incidents recorded between January 2010 and December 2019. The dataset is organized into several tables that categorize data by principal offence, location type, family incident flag, and investigation status. Here’s a brief overview of each table: Table 01: Shows the number of criminal incidents and rates per 100,000 people by principal offence type over the specified period. Table 02: Provides details on criminal incidents by location type, giving insights into where different types of crimes are most likely to occur. Table 03: Focuses on criminal incidents flagged as family-related from 2015 onwards, including their rates per 100,000 population. Table 04: Breaks down criminal incidents by both the principal offence type and the investigation status, offering a view of how various cases were handled. The dataset includes notes on confidentiality and data handling: sensitive counts of certain offences (e.g., homicide and sexual offences) are adjusted for confidentiality. Rates are calculated using population data primarily from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, with estimates for more recent years sourced from the "Victoria in Futures" report.
