Interactive map of a dataset of UFO sightings, built using the R package leaflet. The dataset was part of the R programming and visualization challenge Tidy Tuesday, for the week of 2019/06/25, available on GitHub. It includes recorded UFO "sightings" around the world, including the UFO shape, coordinates and state/country of the sighting, the duration of the "event", and the date/time when it occurred. Data comes originally from NUFORC, and was cleaned and uploaded to Github by Sigmond Axel. I made a map of the sightings using a custom marker icon, with colours corresponding to the duration of the encounter. Closely placed markers are aggregated, because there are >80000 records. When you click on a point, a label with the date of the encounter and shape of the UFO is displayed.
