In the following report, we will summarize and chart data contained in the NOAA (U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) Storm Database pertaining to severe weather events occurring domestically from 1950-2011. This analysis will specifically focus on the following questions: 1. Across the United States, which types of events (as indicated in the EVTYPE variable) are most harmful with respect to population health? 2. Across the United States, which types of events have the greatest economic consequences? Summaries and charts will be used to underscore which events result in the greatest negative impact, thereby signalling to authorities how best to prioritize resources for maximum harm reduction.
