R Essentials for Social Scientists
Welcome to my guide to R! I originally created this document as a place to store functions and code snippets I found useful, and note to my future self, but I figured, "Why not share it with colleagues?" A lot of you, it seems, have found it useful. I am a political scientist (see personal website), so this guide reflects the type of statistics I use most often. I hope that it will also be relevant to folks in other fields. Some part of this guide get updated more often that others, so if you find something outdated or have a suggestion for something to add, please email me at matthew.simonson@mail.huji.ac.il. If you're looking to learn R for the first time, I recommend R for Data Science (2e), a free online textbook from the creators of the Tidyverse packagers. Start with sections 1-4, 6, 8, 27, and 28 for the essentials.
